Shuffle Meme

Whew...this has been one hell of a week. I feel like someone's been beating me with a rubber mallet (figuratively, of course)--no real damage, but definitely a bit battered. So, I decided not to go in to lab this weekend. It's not quite the same as not working this weekend, but it'll do. And I finally got around to responding to all of your comments on my previous post!

And now, the shuffle meme, for which I was tagged by CAE.

  • Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
  • Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
  • Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
  • Step 4: Strike through when someone gets them right.
  • Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.

Huh...I hadn't realized that so much of what I listen to either has non-English lyrics or no lyrics at all. I skipped over all of those, so these 25 actually represent almost 60 tracks.

  1. I watch the western sky, the sun is sinking
  2. His spit is worth more than her work
  3. What I feel it is real, what I do is the truth
  4. Moving on the floor now, babe, you're a bird of paradise
  5. Going through old dresser drawers, fumbling through these closets
  6. The way you wear your hat, the way you sip your tea
  7. Forfeit the game before somebody else takes you out of the frame
  8. Every night I'm lying in bed, holding you close in my dreams
  9. In the next world war, a jackknifed juggernaut
  10. Back when I was young, couldn't wait to grow up
  11. Yeah, I'm tired of sighing, tired of worrying too
  12. I looked at you, you stole my heart
  13. I sent you roses, I warned you I would
  14. You tried so hard to be someone that you forgot who you are
  15. Blue Kentucky highway, heading for the line
  16. Don't wish, don't start, wishing only wounds the heart
  17. My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why
  18. We call them cool, those hearts that have no scars to show
  19. Bones sinking like stones, all that we fought for
  20. Blood sugar sucker fish in my dish
  21. This here is the place where I will be staying
  22. Look at me, my depth perception must be off again
  23. Heads of state who ride and wrangle
  24. Check it out now, I work the pen to make the ink transform
  25. You can go to the east, find your…your inner hemisphere

Thanks for playing!

I've had a couple of beers and they've gone right to my head, so this is just my preliminary answer (and thank goodness for spell check in Firefox).

#17 is Thank you by Dido (or possibly Stan by Eminem, which used Dido samples).
#19 is Don't Panic by Coldplay - it's on my list too and no-one's got it yet!

Stan by Eminem is correct! And so is Don't Panic by Coldplay. I can't believe I didn't catch that on yours! But then I'm really bad with lyrics and probably wouldn't even have been able to guess any of my own.... :-)

#4 is Rio by Duran Duran.

#6 is "They Can't Take That Away From Me." It's an old jazz standard, and literally everyone's done it (it's a Gershwin classic) so I don't know which recording yours is.

You're both right! Arduous, I have multiple versions, but this one was by Ella Fitzgerald. She's amazing!

#20 is Red Hot Chili Peppers! (I love them!)

Chili Peppers it is!

Thanks for the tag!

Just got back from vacation and still catching up on blog reading... I must here admit that I don't have an iPod. In some ways, I guess I'm a Luddite. And I don't even listen to music much these days, so I'm afraid I can't play... I do have a head of jingles from children's television shows; does that count?

Thanks anyway!

No problem. Hope you had a fantastic vacation. I can't wait to read about it on your blog! :-)
